Like it all but the QB. He's going to go in the first round anyway, if he has a solid combine and / or pro day. I wouldn't be surprised to see NE trade Jimmy Garoppolo, trade up for Cleveland's second overall pick, and draft Mahomes there.

    • a little different approach this time ....

My latest mock from walkthemock.com for PIT via Default ranking

1:30 - EDGE Charles Harris, Missouri .... Teach him well silverback
2:30 - TE Evan Engram, Ole Miss ... you wanted a move TE now you got one say good bye to Greene as he is probably 1 hit away from retirement
3:30 - S Anthony Smithson, Kansas ....ready to play but has that all important 1 year adjustment time before he has to this is Mitchells replacement for 2018 and special teams ace in 2017
3:41 - EDGE Derek Rivers, Youngstown St. ... great spot for a kid like this it manages the risk reward of small school perfectly and with Harris in the first it minimizes his need to contribute day 1
4:28 - RB Wayne Gallman, Clemson .... would be a perfect #2 for us with #1 ability if needed
5:29 - WR Taywan Taylor, Western Kentucky .... if you have not watched his tape you have been missing out and I suggest you watch I honestly do not expect him to make it this deep into the draft if he played at OSU or like school would be a 2nd rounder
6:29 - CB Brendan Langley, Lamar ...... kid is raw a converted wr with just 2 years def under his belt but he has the size and tools you looks for could develop into a very good player
7:30 - CB William Likely, Maryland ...if only a return specialist he is worthy of the pick but he could be a play maker in the slot ...5 foot 7 is his real issue and the only reason he would be on the board at this point

Not the best ever, But I can live with this. I've been looking at safety, and you know what? I think the Steelers could possibly help themselves if they picked up on this year to pair up with Davis. Mitchell will be 30 at the start of the season, probably has 2-3 good years left in him, and that's enough time to get whomever and have them learn the ropes. The best and most suited for the Steelers would be Obi Meliwonfu, but there are, I'd say 3-4 others that would fit just as well.

Converting Seals-Jones to TE, as he should be....
This draft is deep. I don't see how anyone could assume that the Steelers will sign a big name in FA, when they could save that monsy for a rainy day, draft the positions they want, and back fill with FAs later on. to me, that would be the smarter thing to do. Maybe Colbert is thinking differently? I just see a lot of over priced FAs right now. Just not interested in any of them.
    • Right before the Dolphins signed Timmons away, this was the draft I came up with, per Fan Speak, using the Falconwire rankings...

30: R1P30 EDGE HAASON REDDICK TEMPLE
      62: R2P30 WR JUJU SMITH-SCHUSTER SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
94: R3P30 DL TANOH KPASSAGNON VILLANOVA
105: R3P41 EDGE TYUS BOWSER HOUSTON
135: R4P28 CB CHIDOBE AWUZIE COLORADO
      173: R5P29 S TEDRIC THOMPSON COLORADO
213: R6P29 CB JALEN MYRICK MINNESOTA
248: R7P30 RB BRIAN HILL WYOMING

When the off-season began, I think the general consensus among Steelers fans was that the Steelers needed to be more flexible in what they could do on defense. So the thought of building up the defense seemed to be the top priority in the draft. Get Bell and Brown signed long term, possibly find Ben's replacement if at all possible. But this draft was all about the defense.

With Timmons now gone, a draft like this would make a lot of sense. if they could manage to get Reddick, after the showing he had at the Combine, Steelers Nation seems to have their fingers crossed that he's still there at #30. So I picked him there. Since Goodell still has his thumb surgically sewn to his butthole, and nothing being mentioned as far as Bryant is concern, I picked up Smith-Schuster in the 2nd. Kpassagnon backing up Tuitt and Heyward, would add good quality depth and Bowser on the outside behind Harrison. the rest is history. You'd have Awuzie taking over for Cockrell, Thompson learning the ropes behind Mitchell, Myrick giving his hand at the slot, with Golson fighting him for the right to do so, and Brian Hill could become the 3rd RB, given the idea that D-Will will return for a couple more seasons.
    • Might be the best one I've came up with yet. I forget which ranking I used, actually ran it this past Saturday. It's from Fan Speak using either Falcons wire or Matt Miller's rankings...

      30: R1P30 S OBI MELIFONWU CONNECTICUT
62: R2P30 EDGE JORDAN WILLIS KANSAS STATE
94: R3P30 EDGE TYUS BOWSER HOUSTON
105: R3P41 CB KEVIN KING WASHINGTON
135: R4P28 CB CHIDOBE AWUZIE COLORADO
173: R5P29 WR DAMOREEA STRINGFELLOW MISSISSIPPI
213: R6P29 RB BRIAN HILL WYOMING
248: R7P30 TE GEORGE KITTLE IOWA

I think I've convinced myself that Melifonwu should be their pick @#30 :D
One thing I've remembered the Steelers to be careful of, is the number of teams that may be seeking an OLB in this draft, since so many of them went to the 3-4 over the years. In this draft, I picked up two, I couldn't get Reddick, but Bowser is good enough to play either spot. Since Sidney Ross injured himself, it will be interesting to see who rises up because of it. A sure sign of this draft being deep, is where I got King and Awuzie. Those guys are 2nd rd value, IMO, in most drafts. At worse, I would think they're 3rd rd pickups.

TBH, I think Stringfellow will be picked sooner. Looking at his past records, that dust up at the Superbowl is ridiculous. He supposedly knocked a woman out after breaking her camera. I'm calling B.S. on that one, and I think they essentially did. And being called a 'Broncos fan' is a reason to go, a forth degree Assault charge...probably poking his forehead with your finger or something like spitting in somebody's face. The man said he was punched in the face, so I'm going with he got poked int eh forehead a few times, and that index finger was pointy and hurt like hell.... Not making excuses for him, just saying, he was a bit out of control, but not nearly the monster he was made out to be. Uncouth, but not all out Gangsta wit it. For what it's worth, I think the change of scenery was good for him. It appears he stayed out of trouble with Ole Miss, for what that's worth.

213: R6P29 EDGE TASHAWN BOWER LSU
248: R7P30 DL ISAAC ROCHELL NOTRE DAME

I'll edit this later and explain the picks. I really like this one, which means it will never happen, lol.

Yep, this will never happen, lol. This was based off the current Inside the Pylon rankings at Fanspeak. The way things were falling in that mock, I managed to find a way to manipulate the mock to the point, it started to freeze up. Which is funny in itself. The key was to ignore the obvious positions of need, until somebody of need and desired was there. Came out pretty damn good. The more I think about Bowser's skill set, the more I'm inclined to say he needs to be on the roster. He can fill some many spots with where he is right now. I'd bring in Tashawn as the eventual replacement for Moats. And with this mock, the secondary is finally resolved. Not sure where Golson is with his condition, but he'd simply be icing on the cake at that point.

This defense needs a draft like this. And the quality of players in this draft couldn't have come at a better time. So I hope Colbert and Co. manage to do what's needed.

The post was edited 1 time, last by DSH_97 ().

    • I have to believe that anything can happen in this draft, when you consider some of the performances during the combine, and even the injury to Sidney Jones. Sidney Jones is currently found up and down the first 1-5 rounds of the draft, after the injury. I ran this mock draft just last night for the hell of it. Off the Matt Miller ranking....

      30: R1P30 S OBI MELIFONWU UCONN
62: R2P30 EDGE DEREK BARNETT TENNESSEE
94: R3P30 RB SAMAJE PERINE OKLAHOMA
105: R3P41 TE ADAM SHAHEEN ASHLAND
135: R4P28 DL CHARLES WALKER OKLAHOMA
173: R5P29 CB JALEN MYRICK MINNESOTA
213: R6P29 WR ARDARIUS STEWART ALABAMA
248: R7P30 EDGE TASHAWN BOWER LSU

I finished off the mock 5-7 rounds off the cuff. No rhyme or reason, just because.

But getting Derek Barnett in the 2nd rd, right there is perhaps the most interesting drop I've gotten thus far. And I have to think he dropped that far due to his combine performance, not just by chance. Of course, being honest, it's a random generator, so anything could possibly happen. The issue is, these generators are given a certain value to prevent certain names from being found in places they don't belong. ie; Myles Garrett in the 3rd rd. We saw Bud drop to the Steelers, and nobody saw that coming. DeCastro, the same. But the chances of it happening this year seems more believable than during those drafts.
